Retirement & Life after Sport

Life beyond the game

Replacing a sporting income is a maths problem before it is an emotional one. We can show you the numbers.

Why it is worth modelling

Every playing career ends, and most end earlier and more suddenly than planned. The drop is rarely gradual: one season there is a contract, the next there is not, and the outgoings have not moved.

Knowing what you need to replace, and how much of it is already covered, turns that from a worry into a number you can plan around.

What the planning covers

Cash-flow modelling is the core of it. We build a picture of your income and spending year by year, through the rest of your career and well beyond it, so you can see the shortfall before you reach it.

From there it becomes practical: how much needs to be put aside while you are still earning, what your pensions and investments are likely to provide, and what level of income a second career actually needs to generate.

When to look at it

“My contract ends next year.” “I’m starting to think about what comes after sport.” “I don’t know what I’d need to earn to keep things as they are.”

Earlier is better, but it is never too late to be useful. Even in a final season, seeing the numbers laid out changes the decisions — about what to take on, what to let go, and how long you have to work it out.

How we work

We model it with you rather than at you — your actual income, your actual outgoings, and a realistic view of what happens when the playing contract stops.

Then we agree what to put in place while the earnings are still there, and revisit the model as things change. Plenty of people find the picture is better than they feared. Some find it is worse, which is precisely why it is worth looking.
